ELY. | HATLEY ST. GEORGE in CAMBRIDGESHIRE. | MADDINGLEY a deux milles de CAMBRIG. | WIMPLE in the County of CAMBRIDGE.
Pieter van der Aa (1659-1733) was a prolific Dutch publisher producing many multi volume atlases and part works. The bulk of his publications, although of good quality, were compilations from earlier works. This plate is no exception with the town plan of Ely copied from John Speed, and the views of Wimpole Hall, Hatley St. George and Maddingley after Johannes Kip.
The image is printed from five separate copper engraved plates, the four smaller plates with the town plan and houses printed into the blank spaces of the large plate comprising the framed decoration.
A rare item in fine hand colour.
